Read This Before Using The LAS 3100 GPS Position Locking
GPS Position Locking is simply how long it takes for the GPS unit to automatically calculate its location after it is powered up.
You will notice this when you are reviewing the GPS recorded data with the software. Sometimes the track will not start from the same location it stopped. You will see small gaps in the data. The gaps are caused because of the time it takes for GPS Position Locking.
The more metal you have around or above the unit, the longer it will take for Position Locking. GPS signals, which are very weak by the time they reach the earth, are blocked if the antenna is placed directly under metal objects. To reduce GPS Position Locking it is recommended that the unit be left on at all times.
Below is a listing of placements for the 3100_INT Model. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
